At a glance
This powder room in an Ontario lake house covers approximately 20 square feet. It took 6 months from start to finish, with a project budget of about $10,000. Main materials: Terrazzo tile, glass tile.
The brief
The clients needed a durable, easy-to-clean powder room in the basement of their new lake house, next to the entrance people use when they come in from the water and from time spent outside. Every surface had to handle moisture and constant use, and the room still needed to feel fresh and a little playful.
What we did
We picked materials for how they behave when wet before we picked them for how they look, then used bold colour in one place so the room has personality without fuss.
Highlights
- Terrazzo tile floor that handles moisture and heavy traffic
- Bright blue illuminated glass tile feature
- Materials chosen for durability first, then style
- A contemporary look that suits the relaxed lake setting
The result
A hard-working transition space that guests notice. It handles lake life and still has a clear point of view.
