Questions, answered.
What it costs, how long it takes and how we work with your contractor.
How much does it cost to work with you?
The first step is a design consultation: $250 plus HST. If you hire us, the full amount is credited to your first invoice. After that, design work is a fixed fee quoted in writing, based on the size and complexity of your project, so you know the full design fee before you commit.
What do design fees usually cost in Toronto?
As a general guide from published 2026 Toronto-area fee guides, design for a single kitchen, with layout, cabinetry, selections and drawings, typically runs from about $5,000 to $15,000. Design for a whole two-storey home typically runs from about $15,000 to $40,000. Firms that also manage construction often charge 10 to 25 percent of the construction budget instead. Every project has different and very specific requirements and priorities that are rarely the same from one project to the next, so we quote a fixed design fee in writing after your design consultation.
What happens in the design consultation?
We talk through your space, what isn't working, your goals, your budget and your timeline. It gives both of us what we need to decide whether we're a good fit, and gives us what we need to quote a fixed design fee. The consultation is a paid session and stands on its own.
Do I have to hire you after the consultation?
No. There's no obligation to continue. If you do hire us, the $250 consultation fee (plus HST) is credited in full to your first invoice.
How do payments work?
We take 50% of the design fee when the contract is signed. The balance is split by project milestone or by month, depending on the project.
What's included in the design fee?
Site visits and measuring, drawings and layout options, custom millwork design, material and fixture selections, sourcing, 3D visualization, and coordination with your contractor through the build. Renovation costs themselves, such as the contractor, materials and cabinetry, are separate.
How long does the design phase take?
The design phase takes 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the project. Construction time depends on your contractor and the scope of the project. We'll give you a realistic timeline during the consultation.
Do you work with my contractor?
Yes. If you already have a contractor, we coordinate with them. If you don't, we can introduce you to contractors we trust and have worked with.
Do you build the cabinetry?
We design custom millwork for every kitchen and bathroom project. We don't build it ourselves: we work with our manufacturing partners, who build it in either a Canadian-made range with short lead times or a fully custom, pre-engineered range. We disclose any supplier relationship in your contract.
Do you do furniture and decorating only?
Our focus is renovation: kitchens, bathrooms and whole-home projects. We don't take on furniture-only or styling-only projects, though furnishings can be part of a full renovation.
Where do you work?
In person across the Greater Toronto Area, and online across Canada through our e-design service.
Do you take on commercial projects?
Small commercial interiors, yes. Our portfolio includes a tattoo studio. Tell us about the space and we'll say whether it's a fit.
Can you help me get trade pricing?
Where trade discounts are available on materials and fixtures, we help our clients access them.
Still have a question?
Send us a note. We'll answer honestly, including when we're not the right fit.
